Rings; subrings, quotient rings and ring homomorphisms; ideal theory; polynomial rings; integral domains and divisor theory; fields and field extensions; the Fundamental Theorem of Galois Theory. Prerequisites: MA523 or equivalent. Exclusions: MA475 or MA686E (Ring and Field Theory version).
